With Love and Sympathy

Our love and sympathy to Dr. Larry Spargimino, host of Southwest Radio Church radio and TV.

His wife, Jennifer, was killed in an accident involving a driver who was intoxicated. Jennifer, like Larry, was my dear friend of many, many years.

Jennifer was an ethnic Chinese, and she and Larry have ministered to the Chinese in their area near Oklahoma City and in places around the world. She will be greatly missed, but her loss is only for a moment. We will be gathered together with Jennifer at a profoundly Spectacular Moment in a reunion we can’t fully fathom this side of Glory.

Typical of Larry’s kind and gentle heart for people and particularly for the lost, he has requested prayer, not for himself, but that he be given the opportunity to witness to the lady, Ellen, who was driving the car, of Christ’s Love and Salvation Offer.

Please pray that Larry be given that time of witness to the woman responsible for the accident, as he has requested.

Thanks for your attention to the request.

When I see that someone wants to witness to a person who killed someone he or she loved, especially in this way, it just shows me how much farther along the road to being a true Christian I need to go.

It also honestly makes me also wonder if I could ever achieve it.

Dr. Spargimino, I hope I will see you at the Bema with your wife receive the eternal rewards you both so richly deserve.

Praying that God will prepare the heart of Ellen and Larry will be given the opportunity to present Christ. What a gracious loving man Larry must be!

When I read this post late in the night, I prayed for Larry and his family. What hope we Christians are given by the Lord when one of our beloved friends or family members are called home. Even in the worst of circumstances we know they have been delivered into the arms of our Savior and there is nothing better in this world.

As a recovering alcoholic (25+ years) I can humbly say “thank you Lord” that I didn’t hurt or kill anyone while I was lost in the spiral of addiction. Jesus saved me, I know that for certain, but I could have been Ellen.

I am praying for Larry and for Ellen that this tragic accident is turned into good and Ellen has been chosen from before the foundation of the earth, with her name written on the palms of our Savior. It will become a powerful testimony to Christ’s love and grace, as it has already been, based on Larry’s faithful and powerful response to what has cost him so dearly in this life.

Congratulations on your 25+ years of sobriety. I have been dry myself for 45 as of Nov. 1st of this year. I, too, am thankful to God not only for this but for not killing or harming anyone else while I was intoxicated.

By the way, this “higher power” business pushed by some so-called recovery outfits is terribly misleading. Not to identify the True God as the only legitimate “higher power”can only lead to deception and maybe right into the hands of the devil himself.

In my experience, no one gets free of the slavery of addiction without Jesus – who is God Incarnate.

I agree with you Ed, the lies of a higher power and the worldly philosophies they spout in AA meetings are very destructive. But I also admit that is how I got sober and God had to clean me up before I could respond to His call. Once I was saved I couldn’t sit in AA meetings or Celebrate Recovery meetings any longer. My heart hurt over the deception I heard. My path to salvation was circuitous, but clearly ordained for me according to God’s plan and I am grateful for it.

It has given me a great deal of empathy for those who suffer in addiction. Jesus is the only way.

I am glad you left those”organized rehab” outfits because their basic premise is not based on God as the higher power. I see them as fancy houses built upon the sand of which those going to them will not ultimately stand the test of time or adversity.

I did the “cold turkey” thing without them, trusting only in Jesus. First month was roughest, the shakes, poor sleeping, and not so great appetite. After a few months, it wasn’t so bad. Six months later, I figured I might have a few drinks and be okay. Almost at that very moment I got the shakes again.

I looked up and said, “Okay, God, I got the message!” Never had that drink or the shakes ever again.

Thing is, I was a believer before and during my active alcoholism, but still fell into the trap.
Thank Jesus, I was also freed from it.

Thank you Ed, and I’m glad for you as well. It’s amazing to me how the Lord works His will in each of us according to His knowledge of us. One size does not fit all and He alone knows what to do to bring us fully to Himself, for our benefit and His glory.

        Absolutely right.
        Well said!

  4. Suzanne Mather's avatar Suzanne Mather says:

That is true love and the heart of God!
May God open the lady’s heart to the gospel of peace!
