“Scanning a Fearful Future Part 10” (the conclusion of the series) was completed early in 2011. We’ve revisited that series of articles on two additional occasions, I believe. I am convicted that here, in September 2022, it’s time again to look ahead—“scan”—into the ever-deepening march of humanity toward the consummation of this Genesis 6-like age.
Many prophecy watchers won’t agree with my take on the matters I present in this addendum because it’s not scripturally provable. But I don’t claim it is; admittedly, the thoughts I put forward are conjecture rather than necessarily Holy Spirit-prompted.
I do believe, however, that my thinking is legitimately evidence-based, considering my long-time Bible-centered observation and dissection of these wicked times.
My only reluctance in dealing with these matters stems from the frequently expressed realization that my thinking—like that of many of my colleagues—is too often—Amero-centric. That is, we too often consider our nation to be at the center of everything when we look at prophetic progression.
With all that as a preface, I nonetheless must once again say I see America as perhaps key to the wrap-up of the Church Age (Age of Grace).
Is America in Bible prophecy? That, of course, is among the questions often asked. Always, my answer is: No—not by name.
Is America the Babylon prophesied in Revelation chapter 18? My answer to that has evolved over much study to be “perhaps.” But, again, it can’t be proved to be that condemned city/system of evil that has afflicted all the world with sin. However, America is, almost undoubtedly, a part of that commercial and cultural system.
My belief that America fits within the final system of wickedness is confirmed with each news report. As stated on several occasions, considering the use and abuse of the most vulnerable among humanity is evidence of how far from the heart of God mankind has “progressed”.
The fact that such upside-down thinking and conduct are said to be “progressive” proves how culture in America has the “reprobate mind” of Romans 1:28. Those who claim to be “progressive” are in fact moving in the direction opposite of Heaven’s command to the human race. This mindset is inflicting on the very young the evil that can be churned only through minds attuned to the god of this world.
As stated before, history attests that every major civilization on record has come to its inglorious end while engaging in child sacrifice and unspeakable abuses by the adult generations during those times of collapse and demise.
Time and time again we’ve looked at abortion in America today and have concluded that murder in the mothers’ wombs is, in the majority of cases, used as contraception to cover for sexual misconduct and/or irresponsibility. The practice can be likened to sacrifice upon the altar of convenience—like the pagans, and even Israel, once sacrificed infants upon the white-hot, stone hands of Moloch.
And now parents are dressing children as young as age 4 as transvestites and parading them in honor of LBTQ… etc., etc., rainbow, Genesis 6-like activities.
We have reports of all that went on with the Jeffrey Epstein island evil involving under-aged girls, and even of pedophilia among younger children who were abused in horrendous ways by well-known people. Yet the national media has swept all such reports under the proverbial rug of forgetfulness. And America has been at the direct center of all this anti-God activity. The most blessed nation in history—in terms of material blessings and perhaps second (only to Israel) in spiritual blessings—has become perhaps the most debauched, lascivious, licentious nation ever.
This brings me to the crux of this subject.
As some know, I believe Jesus prophesied the time of Rapture. I don’t mean, of course, that He told us the day or hour, as He Himself said only the Father knows that. But I’m more convinced than ever that He gave conditions precisely as they’ll be when He calls believers into His presence.
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
And here is where I know I’ll receive some degree of resistance regarding my Amero-centric perspective on Jesus’ words of Luke 17: 29-30.
“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17: 28-30)
Here Jesus likened the time He will next intervene into the affairs of mankind to the days when Lot lived and worked in Sodom. The very day Lot went out of that wicked city (out of which the angels led Lot and his family), judgment from God fell and totally destroyed both Sodom and its sister city, Gomorrah.
In this Luke passage, Jesus was referring to that moment–the Rapture. As we’ve looked at many times, He couldn’t be referring to the very end of the Tribulation, when as many as three-fourths of the earth’s population will have died during the seven years of God’s judgment and wrath. At that time—the time of His Second Coming (Revelation 19: 11)—it won’t be business as usual, as given in this prophecy. The few rebels left on the planet will be hiding in caves from God’s King who is coming through the scrolled-back blackness on the bright clouds of glory.
Now, to bring it down to our present closing hours of this age, I propose that the Lord might have had in mind a particular people and nation as He described how things will be at the moment of the Rapture.
Here goes my Amero-centricism again.
America today is the greatest nation in all of recorded world history in terms of spectacular advancements and achievements. It is the apex nation in this regard. No other has come close—that we know of…
We hear constantly that all the world is about to collapse in financial catastrophe, and even perhaps explode in nuclear war. These predictions have been around for years. Yet the world is buying, selling, marrying, planting, building—all the things Jesus prophesied for the time when, like in Lot’s time, God’s people will be removed from the earth.
While Europe is quickly dissolving in energy-crisis mode and the financial systems of the world seem about to collapse, Americans are still, like the folks of Sodom, living in ways Jesus described: we’re buying, selling, building, etc.
I maintain the Lord might well have had in mind this very nation we call America as the model for the future time of the removal of God’s people.
Our nation fits as the super-achieving, productive society and culture of Christ’s analogy. And, certainly, at the same time, our society and culture align with the wickedness of Lot’s day.
Scanning a fearful future, to the Christian, is really to be scanning a fantastic future! All of this points to the blessed hope of Titus 2:13: Believers are on the very cusp of coming into the joint heirship with the Son of god we are promised.
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2: 9)
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Terry, I meditate on your comments about this from past posts. It’s hard to disagree with your insights, the world is crumbling around us and yet here we still are.
C-19 has just been declared ‘over’, the current presidential administration tells the mindless lemmings who follow their lies that things are getting ‘better’ and America is finally on the right track. Nevertheless, we know food and energy shortages are coming and only traces of our once godly and lawful nation can be found; our political system, our cities, our schools, our courts, the entertainment industry, our medical system, and most of our businesses have succumbed to the corruption of this age…and with breakneck speed.
As you pointed out, Jesus said, in Luke 17:19-20 “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” My fear, although there is nothing I can do about it, is that our nation will be utterly and completely destroyed when the Rapture occurs. We will be the nation that is wiped off the earth, because of our innumerable sins and rebellion.
The Bible promises there will be untold multitudes of people who are saved during the Tribulation, but I wonder if any Americans will be included among them. We have been so blessed for so long…even up to now, therefore, I wonder if we will meet with the worst and most complete judgment of any nation to ever have existed. (The ancient Assyrians and other pagan nations were brutal, and barbaric, but there were far fewer of them than there are of us and we have managed to export our corruption throughout the world.) As you correctly observed, we are surely the most wicked and rebellious people of any in human history.
God’s hand is holding things in perfect tension until He sends His Son for us, His Bride. It is more and more obvious by the day. When we are soon destroyed, so goes the world.
It’s hard to imagine things will remain ‘normal’ for much longer. All things considered, including the upcoming November election, it seems we are on the edge of eternity. Even in just the past few weeks the planet has been experiencing almost daily earthquakes at 6.5+ and higher! Today Mexico had a 7.6, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan and Vanuatu have all had 7.0 or higher quakes in the past week or so! THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Add in the worldwide floods, the continually strange clouds in the skies, the terrible forest fires, the volcanoes…clearly all the planetary birth pangs are coming stronger and closer together. Just as foretold, our God is 100% faithful and trustworthy.
Maranatha!
Excellent article. I believe you are right on. Thank you!
Come Lord Jesus!!!!!
In agreement with you Terry, while-heartedly! My wife and I were just a few minutes ago, talking about the times we live in. Surely our Lord will return for us soon. We join you in saying, even so, Come Lord Jesus!
Agreeing with your statement regarding all that is going on in the world, yet Americans are still buying, selling, etc, (and arguing in the church!). In my daily grind of work and life, people talk, complain and argue all about the political world. The talk of vacations, weekend getaways, buying homes, updating houses, sports events, weddings…and talk of 3, 5, 10 years down the road how the market will be. And I am not immune! My perspective is that people don’t know what to do with all that’s happened over the last 4 years, and all that keeps happening. So they just keep living. And I keep thinking in my head “there may be a big whirlwind upward happening and none of that will matter. Everyone please think on eternity and salvation! ” I don’t believe we are in a time where one can say “this, too, shall pass” as I’ve heard many times in my life. It is time for repentance and submission to Jesus. But, yes, people are turned away and off from God. Just as Jesus said would happen. I am sad for lost souls, but will pray for them. I’ve prayed to have moments with loved ones and others to talk eternity. Sometimes I chicken out, sometimes it’s just sharing Jesus’ name during conversation. That’s enough for God to work with. But until that trumpet sounds, I will continue to pray for God to reach those hearts. It is God’s kindness that leads one to repentance. He is patient not wanting anyone to perish. Even so, come Lord Jesus! Lisa K
When matters are to be viewed as similes or allegories, it is always very clear, especially in the Book of Revelation, hence the late, great US of A, has absolutely nothing to do with the ‘Babylon’ written about in the Word of God. Strangely enough, it is referring to the actual place, which is in the process of being rebuilt as I write, just as the possibility of the Temple is right at the door of actuality.
With regard to Sodom and Gomorrah, that was just a city but now the whole world is full of evil, so the whole world needs God’s take on its behaviour – for ‘take’ read ‘Tribulation’.
I doubt that many of your readers who are not American will be thrilled by this article. I truly do not understand this obsession people have about America being at the forefront of God’s mind. It could not be farther from Israel if it tried. The centre of world from God’s perspective is Jerusalem.
I think part of the problem could be that US dollars certainly won the last world war for us and the nation became very prominent because of its money, therefore, some consider it is now definitely the focus of God’s mind after Israel.
I accept my take will not be popular but I trust I am allowed to proffer my point of view?
While I do not think America is the actual Babylon we see in Revelation, it is pretty clear that the Babylon spirit has infected it and all the rest of the world’s democracies. This evil spirit existed before Babylon itself literally did. You can call it the spirit of the Antichrist, but its most accurate name is Satan himself. The result of his influence is clear. The lawlessness and tampering with the human genome than occurred in Moses’ age is back, along with the acceptance of perversion of Lot’s society is upon us once again.
America was never perfect, but it was founded on Judeo-Christian values and, up until the 1960’s, tried to live by them. If not for the U.S., I don’t think Israel would ever have come to exist again in its original territory. Now that we have pretty much handed God an eviction notice and are stiffing Israel, our purpose has been served. We are now well on the way to irrelevancy. The Rapture will finish the job because only God’s Holy Spirit is holding back its total collapse.
Additionally, with the removal of the church (i.e. genuine believers), God’s attention will focus on Israel again, preparing for himself that nation to be number one in the Millennium and to carry out its original mission to proclaim God’s Word throughout the world.
As for the return of actual Babylon, I think it will be re-established in its original site and not only be the eventual headquarters of the coming Antichrist, but the center of the world’s finances, business, energy, and religion (albeit, a totally false one). Using recently developed 3D printing technology, it is now possible to print entire buildings in days, so why not a whole city in a few months? Though prophecy does involves symbolism, more often than not, it is literally fulfilled.
We are seeing this already with each passing day. Much of the Olivet Discourse, for example, reads as current events.
Yes and Amen! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!!!
Terry, thank you for this. I agree with everything you’ve said.
You are one of only a very few prophecy teachers who seems to fully understand (or not be willfully ignorant of) how very close we are to going home and have the courage to say so. I believe many are enjoying their lives too much and are more than fine with waiting a few more years or longer to be raptured.
As far as humanity as a whole, I’ve never seen so many oblivious people in all my life. Christians and non Christians alike. They are in for one massive wake up call, especially here in the United States.
For those with eyes to see and ears to hear, we have all the proof we need! The King is coming!
God bless you Terry!
Amen Kim, amen!
Terry, Thanks for your thoughts. You have a mis-referenced passage in this writing. You have Genesis 19:11 which should be Revelation 19:11. God bless,
Larry Kirkland
Amen. Soon.
Thank you for your ministry of the Word to us in these difficult times! May God continue to use you and bless you and your family. May all of us believers be unified in getting the message to all people and unified in love in the body of Christ. May we be found faithful in performing that which Christ has called us to! Let there be joy in the body of Christ and faithfulness to His Word! Hallelujah! Amen!
At 72 years old, I am daily hoping that today will be the day He takes us home. I’m a blessed man with grandkids, kids and a wonderful wife, but I am ready for this camping trip to be over. I’m tired of this world and just want to be in the presence of the One who took my sin upon Himself to the cross – what a glorius future health!
