It is always gratifying and even exciting to discover a writer so talented as my newly made friend Thomas Britten. I, too, like the novel form of putting forth the Imminent Call by our Lord into the Clouds of Glory.
So it is with absolute approval of this great novel by Thomas that I recommend you enjoy its encouraging and comforting story.
Here is a brief, partial overview.
Sixteen-year-old David lives in a world where believing in God is no longer merely unfashionable—it is dangerous.
At the Academy, society is divided into colour-coded classes, and David belongs to the Reds, the lowest tier. Every lesson reinforces the same message: God is a myth, religion poisoned the old world, and humanity must leave faith behind if it is to progress. For David, orphaned after the death of his parents, holding onto the Christianity they taught him becomes a daily battle between faith, fear and doubt.
Then mysterious messages begin appearing on a classroom chalkboard.
Someone inside the Academy is challenging the official narrative—and David begins to realise he may not be as alone as he thought.
His quiet resistance draws others towards him. J, a streetwise gang member, becomes intrigued by David’s stubborn belief in God. Bethany Martyrs, wounded by her father’s abandonment, is searching for something the new society cannot give her. And Mr Gardener, one of David’s teachers, may be concealing convictions of his own.
But questioning the system carries a terrible price.
Those who refuse to conform can be designated Non-Access Citizens—NACs—stripped of their rights and ultimately marked for elimination. When David is forced into the Compliance Agenda, a psychological conditioning programme intended to eradicate his faith, Mr Gardener risks everything to rescue him. Bethany, however, faces her own terrifying choice: conform or stand for the truth.
Beyond the Academy, something darker is taking shape. The enigmatic Shinar Cane is rising to global prominence, aided by what appears to be telepathic contact with an alien intelligence. While the world sees the promise of a new age, the reader begins to glimpse another possibility: humanity is being prepared for a deception of biblical proportions.
The battle also reaches David’s home. His aunt Ruth, increasingly influenced by her occultist flatmate Lilah, appears to be moving further from the faith David desperately hopes she will embrace.
Then, without warning, everything changes.
In a moment, David is caught up in brilliant light. The struggle is over. The faith he has fought so hard to preserve becomes sight: Jesus Christ has come for His Church. There David discovers that his witness was not in vain—the seeds planted through his faltering but persistent testimony have borne fruit.
Across the world, millions vanish.
For David, the moment is the culmination of a journey that began with doubt and fear. In a society determined to eradicate Christianity, he chose—imperfectly, sometimes frightened, but persistently—to remain a witness to the truth. But for those left behind, the story is only beginning.
The disappearances plunge an already unstable world into confusion, while Shinar Cane stands poised to offer humanity the answers, unity and leadership it desperately seeks. What the world cannot yet see is that the apparent promise of a new age is leading towards the darkest period in human history.
The Final Witness is a Christian dystopian novel about faith under pressure, the cost of standing for truth, and the hope of the pre-Tribulation Rapture—ending precisely where the coming Tribulation begins.
Again, I wholeheartedly endorse Thomas Britten’s fictional look at what the world faces, and the Glorious future we who are Believers in Jesus Christ can at any moment expect –Christ’s Call in the Rapture!
