Division and the Two-Edged Sword

The monumental film produced by Cecil B. DeMille, The Ten Commandments, continues to carom within the memories of those still living who first saw it on the silver screen. The movie continues to be shown around the Christian holidays and it is still a magnificent production even on the projected image screens of television.

Who could forget the very finger of God as portrayed in the film as lightning from Heaven, carving the Ten Commandments for conducting life on this fallen planet upon the tables of stone?

While Moses fearfully cowered, scarcely looking up, the mountainside exploded as the tablets was cut out of the stone with Heavenly, Surgical precision. Charlton Heston, as Moses, then very tentatively picked the tablets from their place and followed God’s Directive to return to the Israelite people below. They were greatly engaged in sin, the Lord told Moses.

Heston (Moses) came to the base camp where the thousands and thousands of Israelites were in an unbridled orgy. Naked and dancing around the golden calf they had fashioned for worship, the site was cutting-edge film-making for that early period of movie production.

Moses was heart-broken to see the people in such a debauched state. He was more angered than heart-broken, however. Heston as Moses screamed at the people for their evil doings. He shouted, as I remember, “Choose you this day whom you will serve!” He called for those who were with Him to come to his side.

Moses then divided the masses of people, many of whom hurriedly moved, terror-stricken, to his side. Others remained defiant and stayed where they were in order to continue their debauchery and golden calf worship.

Moses anger arose to an even greater level and raised the tablets carved by the Hand of God and flung them at the crowd of unbelieving rebels. We remember how the earth began to shake and crumble in front of the defiant mass of people. The earth gave way beneath them and the earth swallowed them all.

The Lord had used His man, Moses, to divide those who Believed from those who would never believe, no matter what the circumstances. Even when they saw the magnificent Hand of God in dividing the Red Sea so they could pass through, saw the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night to guide them, they wouldn’t believe. That is, they might have head knowledge, but not Heart/Spirit Knowledge of Who God Is. Neither did they want to know.

There is a division taking place even as I write this and you read it. And, God is again using a man, I believe, to divide those who will Believe from those who will not Believe in His Way of comportment for humankind –for His Only Way for the Salvation of the souls of lost mankind.

Donald J. Trump –certainly no Moses, in character, and not having handed to him Commandments directly from God’s Throne— none-the-less is chosen. In the vein of Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus, he is chosen to separate the wheat from the tares, the sheep from the goats, so to speak.

He has been a divisive figure in America’s political realm and in a culture like none other president with the exception of Lincoln. And, Lincoln was chosen, but, obviously for a different purpose, although for a purpose as important in the sense of human freedom.

Trump’s purpose, in my view…well… trumps that of Lincoln in his advocating for Israel, anti-abortion and Constitutional rights with regard to religious freedom.

Now I fully realize that unless your view is Biblical and from the point of view that God is Hands-on and not existential, you see as foolish our believing that these tremendous upheavals of culture we have endured stem from spiritual chaos. –I understand that in your thinking, the so-called revolution represented by the likes of BLM and Antifoam and the raging hatred against Trump and against our wanting things to be back to America as founded is righteous revolutionary action.

And this is where the division is at the moment. It is a schism running smack down the middle of the United States of America. There are decisions to be made upon the political spectrum, and people for the most part have made it.

But it is the Spiritual elements within the American cultural and societal dividing line –that national earthquake fault line where lies the true danger in these troublous times. It is God who Defines where to stand on either side of that fault line.

Now I am fully aware that the story of Moses coming down from the mountain, finding the evil, and acting as God’s Hand of Judgment in slamming the tablets of Law into the fault line of that time involved His Dealing with His chosen people, Israel. But His Dealing with Israel, the Bible tells us in total context of His making Israel His chosen nation, was to place before the eyes of the world a prototype people. These are the people He Chose to serve as an example for the rest of the world’s nations to, in general, comport themselves. So in that regard, God’s Righteous Anger still arises –and against all peoples—when evil reaches its final stages.

There comes a time that a dividing line is drawn –an earthquake fault line of sorts is defined for the whole world to see.

It is my contention that that moment might be upon us now. There is a distinct line of division down the middle of America at present. God has dealt with Israel and America in special ways, I believe. The two nations’ close links since Israel’s rebirth –indeed, America’s amazing history of birth and extraordinary achievements as Apex nation of history is nothing short of Heaven Directed.

So the chaos, created by the rebels who want to do what is right in their own eyes –like the golden calf worshippers of antiquity, has great relevance, I’m convinced. The Lord of Heaven is deliberately making manifest the division between those who will come to Him and those who are diametrically opposed to His Governance.

Trump, unwittingly, I have no doubt, is a type of Moses, in that process of saying symbolically, Choose you this day whom you will serve”. –Or at least “Choose you this day Whom you will not oppose.”

God’s Word, the Bible, has the only TRUTH that exists. In that love letter to mankind, the Creator has given all that is needed to go through life in the Way He has Prescribed. It is a Blueprint for life more Abundant, and full of Light to illuminate dark pathways. Jesus is that Light of the world. He is also the Living Word. Here is what that Word tells us about division in God’s Holy View.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews4: 12)

Millennia and DNA separates those people of Moses day from our time. But God’s Ways change not in the ultimate sense. We can take the God-Inspired Words of Scripture and apply them at this very hour. There is a separation coming. The Spiritual fault line and the historical dividing line are before us. It is time to choose.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24: 15)

  1. I disagree. Both Biden and Trump are promoting the Vaccine from Pfizer and Moderna. Thank you.

I have to admit that I cannot see any reference to the vaccine in this article perhaps you would care to enlighten me?

      • Please know many well known people are lauding Trump but he is also pushing a vax that is known to contain mRNA that combines genes of several aborted babies. Go to Wikipedia and see Recombant Genetics, not recombent. I just looked there. Thank you for your reply.:)

      • Julia Pomeroy says:

Can you do me a favour, would it be possible for you to refer to slaughtered babies and not use the word beginning with ‘a’, I feel most strongly we need to, on this issue, in effect, call a spade a spade? Thank you and please forgive me if my question has offended you. I am the survivor of an abortion.

      • You did not offend me, Sweetie. I was just explaining why I will not take the Covid shot. Whether Trump or Biden is president. I did not mean to offend you either. 🙂

The scripture you ended with is our family motto.
With regard to the fact that you say about some “who will never believe no matter what the circumstances” it caused me to think of those two passages in Jeremiah when God instructs the prophet to not even pray for these people – the Jews. It also caused me to think of all the people who read my comments on the UK broadsheet The Times. I have been commenting on that tome for well over ten years and if I can bring Jesus into my comment I will. You would not believe the filth that has been thrown back at me. Ironically this filth is not moderated but ifd I dare post anything which goes against the msm’s received narrative – I am eliminated in no time.
Your comment has caused me to wonder whether I should continue to afflict myself with the barrage which will continue to come my way if I decided to continue. At the moment, with all that is going on, even I have found it way too much to bear and have left off commenting, for the time being. I expect the Lord will prompt me if He wishes me to continue.

      Hi Julia.

I don’t know if this experience would apply to yours, but perhaps it might. I was an Episcopalian all of my life. Over the decades, it became increasingly liberalized. In 2003 at its triennial convention, it decided to affirm the consecration of openly homosexual Gene Robinson of New Hampshire. My own parish had a conservative pastor. He and I pretty much saw eye to eye about what an evil thing this was.

I had said to myself that I would stick it out if I saw that I could do any good.

Long story short – despite the efforts of those of us who adhered to the authority of the Bible, it became clear that most of those in our parish and diocese, including its bishops, would either rather accept the “doctrines of devils” regarding such issues as acceptance of homosexual behavior, pluralistic salvation, etc., or knew what was going on was wrong but sat back on the sidelines, not making a stand. (The latter, personally, I found the most responsible in perpetuating the evil!)

I came to the conclusion four years later that I was wasting my time and so I left. He did as well shortly thereafter, but it was obvious he had given up even before he physically departed.

In fact, I have now abandoned organized religion altogether because we have a real mess here in the U.S.

I would rather spend my time in a more useful manner with other believers including Terry, you, and those who come to this website.

Now, I have NOT given up getting out the message, even if some people don’t like it but I figure at this point, our time is too short to waste primarily on people who just won’t see or hear no matter how convincing our arguments might be.

      God bless.
      Ed W.

Loved your response to me. God, in His wisdom, called us to this small Greek island in the eastern Mediterranean nearly nine years ago now, where at least you can speak to people about Jesus because most accept He existed. In the UK, where we are from born-again Christians are becoming anathema to the population and, had we stayed there, we would have been in prison by now.
We have tried really hard to find an English-speaking church in which the pastor believes in preaching the whole counsel of God, including eschatology and where the majority of the congregation are born-again. But we gave up at the beginning of this year so we were, if you like, experiencing the ‘lockdown’ even before it began!
We now consider ourselves members of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills and also listen to Andy Woods, Jan Markell, JD Farag, Prophecy Watchers and Amir Tsarfati.
We are still awaiting Terry’s book!

      Hello again, Julia!

      Thanks for sharing your story.

It seems Bible-believing Christians are finding themselves to be increasingly marginalized, particularly in what was considered the free world; and now even those terms are applying less and less as Covid is being used as an excuse to override liberty in the democracies.

More and more, we are becoming strangers in a strange land and I find a real connection with Hebrews 11:13 and the verses that follow. Earth is just becoming less and less like home.

I suspect that very soon, we’ll be called up to that place where this will no longer be the case.

      Keep looking up!

      God bless.
      Ed W.

Good point Bonnie. I wonder how Trump promoting the vaccine plays into this? With him in charge it won’t be mandatory, but no doubt in my mind, it will be if Biden is…

The analogy is amazing! To me, these days feel so heavy and I find myself walking around praying for God’s mercy and strength / favor for President Trump and all those that are working feverishly trying to prove the deception and corruption that the United States has fallen under. The world truly has fallen under the strong delusion the bible speaks of. Your analogy makes perfect sense and gives credence to what we are seeing!! God help us…..

I couldn’t agree more with your op-ed Pastor James. Most forget that Jesus came in love the first time and the next time He returns it will be to judge. I tire of all the TV commercials telling us what our view of life should be and what’s right and wrong. To watch TV commercials, love abounds everywhere. Nothing could be farther from the Truth. It’s a fantasy. It’s fiction. It’s not reality. TRUTH is reality and only “born again” Christians can see it and love it. I am so often reminded that when this world says “Peace and Safety”, then comes sudden destruction (a fate we all deserve except for God’s Grace for those who love Him). Unbelievers (left behind after the Rapture) are like sheep being led to the slaughter. In the meantime until the Rapture, pray for the lost and the soon to be Rapture. Maranatha Lord Jesus!!!!

Could I possibly make a suggestion? How about throwing out the goggle box and learning to live without it. We have not had one for well over 12 years now and it is wonderful, we find our minds are now being shaped far more by the Word of God than anything else. By the way we are still up to date with what is going on but it is when and how we choose and who tells us.

  6. Ed Wood says:

I also believe that Donald Trump was put in the White House for certain reasons. One would be to hold back the forces of globalism for a short time. A second would be to give people of faith reassurance that there was still someone who could run for high office and not be a pawn of the anti-God far left. I am sure there are plenty more.

If the Democratic machine succeeds in winning the presidency, then I would say our brief respite is over. The ugliness here we are seeing will only get worse and we’d better get ready to make a stand for what’s right.

By the way, get the book “Lawless” ASAP! I just received my copy yesterday and it is a “must read” if you want to know why things are the way that they are now and where they are headed. I’m very impressed by the specifics. I’m about 1/3 of the way through it already and it is a top-notch effort!
