Many have speculated over the years about who will be Antichrist. We’ve heard names going back to Hitler, Mussolini, JFK, King Juan Carlos, Prince Charles, Kissinger, Reagan, Trump, Obama, Macron, and now Ukraine’s Volodymyr Oleksandrovych, with a few other names sprinkled in between. None have, so far, fit the bill as that wicked man of sin.
But with regard to the one who will be Gog of Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, the naming of that leader who is prophetically scheduled to lead the assault against Israel seems almost a certainty.
I must include myself in looking rather intensely at one Vladimir Putin as a quite likely candidate for the one into whose jaws God will put the hooks to draw him and his forces down over the mountains of Israel. That is, the Russian Federation president—at the moment, at least—appears to be a prime candidate for being that chief prince of Meshack and Tubal.
Yet, if I were a betting man, as they say, I wouldn’t lay too much down on him in making that wager. Unfolding history has a way of making look foolish those who place too much faith in their own ability to predict prophetic events. Such will likely be the fate of those who invest all in predicting that Vlad is the man possessed of the Gog spirit.
Nonetheless, it is said by some that Mr. Putin has already been indwelt by the Gog demon, recently up from the abyss. And he certainly does act as if he is possessed, his sudden, explosive aggression—without anyone or anything apparently poking the Russian bear—inflicting death and destruction on the people of Ukraine.
Oh, he is said to have unleashed his forces because of Ukraine being courted by NATO as a prospective future member of the organization. But that is an unlikely thing to develop. More likely it involves Putin, a former KGB colonel who has expressed several times that the fall of the Soviet Union was the worst thing to have happened in history. He wants to be seen as a re-emerged, Soviet-style hero in beginning to regather the USSR as formerly constituted.
The prospects for his being that leader of the forces destined for destruction on the mountains of Israel were enhanced considerably when one of Putin’s diplomats made it known that Russia no longer considers the Golan and other areas sovereign territory belonging to Israel. We can extrapolate from that diplomatic note that Russia considers that area—an area recently found to be rich in gas and oil deposits—a legitimate target in the future. Wow! It sure looks like it’s all coming together.
My friend Mark sent an article the other day that goes even further in congealing the likelihood of Mr. Putin being that Russian leader who is either now or who will in the future be possessed by that evil spirit from the abyss—the demon that will make the chief prince of Meshach and Tubal have that “evil thought” to attack God’s chosen nation, as foretold by the prophet Ezekiel.
Mr. Putin seems to have a cheerleading group of the dark-dimension sort rooting for him. The following excerpt of that fascinating article Mark sent explains.
On March 12, about 100 self-described witches gathered at an indoor facility to call upon supernatural entities, and presumably the forces of darkness, to strengthen Russian President Vladimir Putin and help him in his invasion of Ukraine, reported Asia News.
The witches wore dark capes and hoods, and recited incantations.
Aljona Polin, Russia’s leading witch and founder of the Great Witches of Russia association, according to Asia News, said, “Those who hear, but do not hear, those who see, but do not see, those who are there, were there and will be there, will not forget my word: raise the strength of Russia, direct our President Vladimir Putin on the path of justice.”
“Let the great strength of Russia manifest itself,” Aljona intoned. The other witches responded, “Indeed.”
In the middle of the room where the witches gathered there was a shawl with a picture of Putin on it, next to a candle…
“The ritual lasted about 20 minutes in all, with a final physical connection of all the witches joining hands and energies, entering into a spiritual connection with Putin himself,” reported Asia News. Whether or not the evil Gog spirit has been summoned by this coven, the short-of-stature but enormous-of-ego Putin, in considering the one who will be that leader of Rosh, sure looks interesting, doesn’t he?
Even so, don’t bet the farm on it is good advice. Let’s just watch, as commanded (Mark 13: 37) and look for the blessed hope (Titus 2: 13).
We who are in Christ don’t have to be concerned with knowing who will be the chief prince of Meshach and Tubal any more than we have to be concerned with knowing who will be the son of perdition when he steps onto the stage of history. We will be triumphantly within the ark of safety provided by our Lord and Savior.

If Putin isn’t Gog, he is surely setting the stage for Gog. I too have thought that he might be Gog. And, sanctions would be at least one of the hooks in his jaw. Ukraine is right in the neighborhood of some of those allied forces to accompany Gog also. I had thought that Putin/Gog was gathering his allies for the Israel invasion too. I guess we just wait and see. We might still be on the planet for the Ezekiel 38 and 39 war, since that one isn’t Armageddon. We all are instructed to watch, however.
Dear Terry, I get a lot from your books and posts like this one. While there is scripture that supports that the rapture will occur before the Antichrist is revealed, I don’t know that scripture rules out the Gog/Magog war occurring before the seven year tribulation. As far as I am concerned, I hope that the Gog/Magog war happens after the rapture, but I don’t know scripture that guarantees that. We know it will happen in the latter years, which sounds like today and Israel is described as dwelling in peace with unwalled villages. That may mean during the time when the Antichrist makes an agreement to protect Israel but I don’t see any absolute certainty about that. It is possible, but I don’t think is necessarily the case. I listened to Bill Salus. He shared that in the Gog/Magog war Ezekiel tells us that Israel will be burning the weapons for 7 years. However at the middle of the seven year tribulation the Antichrist will turn on Israel and Jesus says that those in Judea are to flee to the mountains. So it is unlikely that Israel will be burning the weapons after the middle of the tribulation. So that suggests the possibility that the Gog/Magog war will occur at least 3 1/2 years prior to,the tribulation. I am just saying that I hope the rapture will occur before the Gog/Magog war, but scripture does not rule out the possibility that the church will still be here when Russia leads a coalition against Israel.

Not having an opinion as of now if Putin is the AC, I do have this observation as a layman on his possible demon possession. Putin is being manipulated deeply by Satan. However, it seems to me that demon-possessed people have an undeniable look of dark, glaring and evil in their eyes. I do not see that yet in Mr. Putin.
You guys are so blind. The reformers believed and taught that the papacy is the antichrist we are warned about in the scriptures.
His title “Vicarious Filii Dei” equals 666. Everything that is said in Daniel applies to the papacy. The antichrist is said to be a man, but since there is only one pope at a time, plurals still are singular.
“Speaks great words against the MOST HIGH”.
They commit blasphemy EVERY DAY.
For a man to claim the power to forgive sins is blasphemy.

They BRAG about replacing the 7th day of the week with the 1st day of the week.
In their religious books, they incorporate the 2nd commandment into the 1st, leaving 9, so they divided the 10th into 2 to keep the number at 10.
The Roman church wielded absolute power from 538a.d. to 1798 a.d. when Gen. Bertheair took the pope prisoner and declared the papacy “dead”, (the deadly wound). In 1929 newspaper headlines read, “deadly wound healed”.
42 months, time, times and the dividing of time and 1,260 days are all the same time period.

We do have certain undeniable fundamentals to the the faith like these: Jesus of Nazareth was and is God incarnate, he was crucified, died, buried, but physically rose to life again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will return. He is also the only means of salvation and there is none by anyone else or our own works (except to believe these fundamentals). There are more absolutes but I think you get the idea.
However, many topics involved in prophecy are not so clear, so please keep in mind that all of us see things only dimly at this point and it behooves us not be too judgmental of others’ opinions in such areas. Also, please remember that numerical manipulations can be . . . well . . . manipulated!
In my opinion, I think it is a good possibility that a pope, perhaps even the present one, will actually end up being the Antichrist’s false prophet. He will represent the false religious aspect of this man and ultimately demand that he be worshiped, but not require worship of himself. That would mean we must have two individuals here.
Now I certainly don’t disrespect anyone who may think otherwise – they may be end up being right!
So, let’s all keep an open mind in such areas.

This is an excellent reminder that ‘we wrestle not with flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness and ruling spirits of wickedness in high places ‘ and it is against such that we should exercise spiritual warfare in our prayers. I am reminded of the book ‘ Rees Powell -Intercessor’ and the work they achieved in changing the complexion of the second world war and other affairs through their concerted prayers’.
I don’t believe Putin is the AC. God is still in control of the affairs of man and he raises up leaders and deposes them. I look at the history of Ukraine and its connection with Russia. Seems to me Putin is cleaning house and retaking land that belongs to Russia. Ukraine is a hotbed of bribery, chicanery, child trafficking for sexual abuse and for the harvesting of organs and of adenochrome, the US politicians are deeply involved in the evil and the corruption of Ukraine. Look at the rise of Nazism in Ukraine. God could be using Putin to clean this corrupt abcess. It has been filled with evil for centuries. I pray for God’s will to be accomplished and for innocent people to be protected. It seems most of the deaths have been caused by the Ukrainians in power, in control of their army and their government.
Problem for me is that it looks like the Russians are targeting civilians. Now I don’t trust much of the news media these days, but even conservative sources are reporting pretty much the same thing. That’s not right even if their government is corrupt.
I am also concerned that the weakness demonstrated by the U.S. and Europe emboldens China to make a move on Taiwan.
I know Gog and the kings of the east have to factor in on the way history will play out, but it is still tough to watch.
You are right. It is horrible to watch but remember all the stories in the Bible of nations ravaged by stronger nations and the terrors the people had to go through. This may be what we are seeing in our day. We are not exempt. All we can do is pray against the evil we see.
What we do know is that Revelation shows us that the worst is coming. Thanks to God’s mercy, we will not be here when it happens although we can see already how the stage is being set for these terrible events to come to pass.
People of Ukraine who have been interviewed by others as in not the MSM which always puts a slant on the story and has been know to prevaricate have stated that it is the Ukrainian soldiers who are shooting civilians and who are putting gun placements in apartment houses and on playgrounds to use the people as human shields. I don’t believe Putin and the Russian soldiers are the bad ones here. It has been proven that the media has used old footage from other battles, other wars and many of the people they have interviewed are “crisis actors”. These folks get paid for posing as wounded civilians and if you pay attention, you can see them reappear in other scenarios as different victim. They use children a lot. Do not believe all you see or are told. We are being manipulated. Russia is being cast as evil but they are destroying bioweapon labs that the Bidens and Obama funded to make viruses to destroy human life down to 500 million on earth (Georgia Guidestones). Please wake up and use your diiscernment to see the truth.
A lot of “moving parts” to this war for sure. The second order effects are interesting: the elevation of a great re_set globalist as a world hero, a rise of Europe, the accelerated demise of the US as a dominant force in world leadership and influence, the exploitation of the war for the goals of the WEF (for example the complete shutdown of all shipping). We tend to want to settle on the “who” while maybe not enough focus on the “what”. The “who” doesn’t really matter that much – the “what” will absolutely affect our lives.
I agree Ted, It is horrifying what is happening in Ukraine . They are flapping their gums in the UN, NATO and elsewhere. but nothing effective is being done to stop it. Guns are being turned on children! Putin knows they are afraid and ineffective. That is why he was able to go to war on the flimsiest of pretexts. What a barbaric world we still live in . Did you know Joe Biden even called their actions war crimes? Strong words. Tsk., tsk. I am ashamed to be a part of the human race at times like this. They need to outlaw every act of warfare and do collectively whatever it takes to stop it!. Innocent people are dying. Hmm. What else is on T.V.?
Christians must pray and not give up.
Joe Biden and others in our government have called for Putin’s assassination. That is unacceptable and equal to an act of war. People need to calm down and look at all the pieces. The Muslim Ukrainians are killing Christians and they are shooting at the refugees. The Russians are allowing refugees safe passage. Look at the whole picture. Go back and watch the movie Wag the Dog.
