There are growing worries among politicians and pundits about the likelihood of nuclear war on the brink. That is, the fear that the Russian/Ukrainian conflict will soon break out in all-out nuclear exchanges.
The Biden administration sending troops to areas such as in Poland to demonstrate to Vladimir Putin America’s determination to thwart Russia’s aggression is at the center of the concern. NATO’s bellicose threats, and particularly rhetoric by European governments, add to the angst.
At the same time, reports coming out of Russia tell that Russian TV broadcasts are announcing that American cities are in Russia’s targeting plans if nuclear war is unleashed. One pundit, who is an author promoting his book, and who is, to my way of thinking, one who believes Americans should prep for nuclear war, says that Russia’s understanding is that the first nation to launch all-out nuclear war has the best chance of surviving as a nation.
Here is some of that cogitating by a book author who simply calls himself “Michael.”
There will be nuclear war if we stay on this path. Almost every day, we get more news about how both sides are escalating the conflict in Ukraine. If the American people truly understood what was at stake, there would be giant protests in the streets of every major U.S. city right now. But they don’t. Most of us are entirely convinced that our leaders can do whatever they want in Ukraine without sparking a nuclear war. But the Russians see things very differently. On Russian television there are endless discussions about how the war in Ukraine is really a proxy war between the United States and Russia, and pundits openly discuss the possibility that eventually nuclear weapons will be used. In fact, the destruction of specific U.S. cities has even been discussed on Russian television, but most Americans never hear anything about this…
Unfortunately, our leaders seem to have no interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine. Instead, they just keep doing things to raise tensions even higher. (“If We Keep Escalating This Conflict, the End Result Will Be a Nuclear Cataclysm,” Michael, End Of The American Dream 2022, Rapture Ready News, July 2, 2022)
President Biden said he will be sending thousands of American troops to Eastern Europe, particularly to the area of Poland. Additionally, he plans to send many ships and planes, as well as tremendous battle-support equipment of various kinds.
He announced that the US will reinforce troop deployments in Romania, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. NATO will enhance its battle groups in the eastern part of the alliance up to brigade levels, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced Monday.
The writer of the article concludes that all of this looks to Vladimir Putin to be an invasion of Russian-overseen territory. The Russian leader, himself, is ratcheting up military action by placing nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in Belarus, a NATO-neighboring Russian ally that housed the forces that invaded Ukraine and attacked Kiev.
There is talk of Russia looking at Cuba as an area near America to place Russian missiles. The writer says that should set off alarm bells to those who might remember the year 1962. And, speaking as one who does well remember that year and the Cuban Missile Crisis, it will indeed set off alarm bells if it eventuates.
So, like the question by William Shakespeare’s character, Prince Hamlet, in his soliloquy in a scene in the play by the same name, “To be, or not to be, that is the question,” we ask. “Nuclear war: To be, or not to be?”
I believe the answer is both “no” and “yes.”
The writer of the article gives statistics informing, according to supposed experts, just how total would be a nuclear war between, primarily, the United States and Russia. While the outlook is bleak, there would be many survivors. As a matter of fact, he reported only about 20 percent of people in America would be killed initially by the horrific weapons used. But there would be many more who would starve to death due to weather-related crop failures because of nuclear radioactive fallout and health-related radiation factors.
Like always, we look to God’s Word for answers. And it is there we find both answers above, I’m of the opinion.
“No,” there will not be nuclear war as described by all the people who, rightfully, castigate the military-industrial complex for war-mongering. This is because Jesus, Himself, tells us that people will be buying, selling, planting, building, marrying, etc.—normal activity right up to the time He next catastrophically intervenes into the affairs of mankind. It will be just like in the days of Lot, He said (Luke 17:26–30).
First, Lot and his family, living in a wicked but very prosperous city, were removed to Zoar. Then God nuked both Sodom and Gomorrah–to such an extent that they are just now finding evidence of the destruction of those totally debauched cities.
So the second answer, “yes,” is found in that same story. It will be like in Lot’s day. So there will be great nuclear-level destruction.
Of course, this will take place after the next event on God’s prophetic calendar: the Rapture of the Church.
We see pre-proof of this coming nuclear destruction, for example, when the kings of the east kill up to one-third of all the people of earth when they cross the Euphrates into the occidental world. The ability to destroy that vast number of human beings almost certainly has to be from nuclear weaponry.
I really am convinced that there will be no all-out nuclear war–no World War III–this side of the Rapture.
But there is a matter even more pressing than the fear of nuclear war. If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Savior from the sin into which you and I were born, you will face much worse than nuclear devastation. You will spend eternity in everlasting torment, apart from God, who loves you and wants you to be with Him.
Here is how to make certain you will go into His presence either at death or when Jesus calls believers to Himself in the Rapture.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9–10)
Whatever comes, we must share the gospel and keep our eyes on Jesus. HAVE NO FEAR! We in Christ are already citizens of Heaven, and are just waiting for our ‘move-in date’.
Rejoice, all of our present trials and suffering will be erased from our memories in eternity, God promises us this. Isaiah 65:17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.” Maranatha!
Hi Terry, What is your opinion regarding the state of the US/World now compared to the conditions during Noah’s time and Lot’s time? Do you think that there was more depravity back then or is it worse now? Thank you, Susan from Virginia
There was more evil and depravity in Noah’s pre-flood time. The reason we can know this is that God’s Word tells us that the entire world had corrupted itself. I.e., this means genetically as much as anti-god morality.
And God said He repented that He had made man, and therefore determined to destroy every living thing except Noah, his family and the animal life He placed in the Ark. And, of course, perhaps the fish survived for the most part.
That Judgment was even more severe than will be the Tribulation, it seems to me.
So I would say we have not reached that level of corruption.
Terry do you believe we have to fully reach Days of Noah, or Days of Lot wickedness before the Rapture? It doesn’t seem possible since when the flood came there were only 8 people on the whole earth God saved. And Lot’s small family were the only ones rescued from destruction in the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah. If the Pre-Trib Rapture is a form of those rescues, and the world will have to be equal to that wickedness, then things will have to get much worse than they are right now for it to occur.
However, you’ve said in other writings that, according to the Lord’s own words, we will still be eating and drinking, marrying and giving marriage etc. before the Rapture and I certainly don’t disagree. Yet there are hundreds of millions of Christians (righteous ones) on the earth now, not just a handful, and to reach that level of corruption I would think it could happen only after the Rapture when the Restrainer is removed.
Does that mean, in your studies, that things won’t reach that level of corruption before the Rapture, simply because untold numbers of Believers would perish before Jesus returns for us?! In the event of nuclear war the concept of ‘life as going on as before” would surely come to an abrupt halt, never to be restored again until the Second Coming.
I find this somewhat confusing and yet I know the Rapture is imminent, so regardless of our conclusions it could happen at any moment.
There sure is a lot of fear mongering, it is increasing by the day. It seems we can’t be far from the utter unraveling of civilized societies across the globe, and that the 4 Horsemen will ride. As Jan Markel and others have said, those horses have got their riders mounted and are waiting for the Seals to be broken.
I read from another pastor that he actually believes that the elite will weather the Tribulation pretty well…but I don’t see how that is possible. God’s wrath clearly is going to fall on ALL who remain after the Rapture, the rich and poor alike.
Thank you for your posts, I look forward to reading them. In a vast sea of untrustworthy and unbiblical voices, yours is one I trust.
It seems to me that there can only be 2 reasons why they do not stop the war:
1) They do not want to, for reasons I could not try to guess (what is to be gained or lost) or
2) they cannot. They fear that Russia is too powerful, alone or with allies like China. Russia is already behaving as if it had the upper hand and every day that goes on will encourage it to believe that it is so.
For all the talk, posturing and bluster they cannot walk the talk.
America is devoid of sound leadership. The man at the helm is a puppet and surely must be at the end of his usefulness. Even now he must have prompt cards and other supports. It must be obvious to America but they continue to let it happen. If what he has done already is any indication, those who are in real control plan to destroy America from the inside anyway. Reason is not going to prevail and no amount of demonstration would be of any use. Donald Trump seemed to be the only possible solution but the extent of the corruption makes it uncertain as to whether there can ever be another honest election. What a sad outlook?
The obvious answer is God . As Terry points out from scripture it seems unlikely that wide spread nuclear destruction will take place before the Rapture. After that it is anybody’s guess. I do not see America turning to God unless He orchestrates it. I believe He will.
A total nuclear exchange would no doubt wipe out the human race and probably most of the higher forms of life on Earth. Radiation-resistant and extremeophile species might survive but that’s about it. We must also keep in mind that the technology that will be needed for the Antichrist to impose his ultimate Big Brother rule would be destroyed by a wide-scale nuclear exchange.
Even so, I think the deployment of at least one one huge nuclear device is a certainty. I think that is exactly what the following passage describes:
Revelation {8:10} And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;{8:11} And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. {8:12} And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
Here is why I think so:
1) The term “wormwood” is “chornobyl” (чорнобиль) in Ukrainian. Isn’t it interesting how Ukraine also now happens to be the center of a military conflict now?
2) The description above is totally different than that of a mountain falling from the sky in the passages immediately preceding these in Revelation.
3) A main sequence star like our sun runs on nuclear fusion and this is essentially the same process that powers a hydrogen bomb. I think the “great star” terminology used in the passage was deliberate. It’s more amazing when you consider it was written over 1900 years ago!
4) Next, we have a very accurate description of the result following the explosion of a thermonuclear bomb, namely, poisoning of the water by radioactive fallout and a diminishing of the light from celestial objects due to the dust kicked up into the atmosphere.
Finally, the Bible does not say that mankind will totally destroy itself and that there will definitely be survivors to populate the Millennium after Jesus comes back to rule.
Judgements of God seem to fall into two broad categories: 1) judgement through human agency, for example, the exile of Jews to Babylon, and 2) judgement through direct and instant supernatural means, for example, 2 Kings 19:35 where the angel of the Lord kills 185,000 men pretty much instantly. I do not see human agency as the instrument used to execute the trumpet judgements. This is wholly supernatural entities in my opinion.
Amen and Thank you.
